It was a cold October afternoon in the stands of Blanchflower Stadium back in 2021, our Irish MU16 had just suffered a narrow loss in their Victory Shield opener against Scotland. Scotland's Alfie Bavidge grabbed the headlines on the day. “Who's that young Irish lad with the box to box energy?” the man beside me asked.
The player in question was a young Adam O’Halloran… A quick burst of acceration forward after pirouetting into space from inside his own half before a perfectly timed disguised forward pass to Naj Razi in the box.
Adam O'Halloran followed in the same footsteps of Ryan Manning, Greg Cunningham, Aaron Connolly in Fahy's Field over in Mervue United A.F.C.
After 9 years at Mervue United, he made his move to Galway United where his transition from the underage ranks, U15, U17, U19 to senior was quite rapid with his determination to succeed evident from an early age.
An effective communicator, hard-worker, humble, and boundless confidence, he quickly became a leader on the pitch.
(Adam pictured on the Galway United Twitter page back in August 2022 having scored a hat-trick in their MU17 3-1 victory over Bray Wanderers MU17s.)
Adam played an integral role for the Galway United Academy during those years, helping them to two finals in three years, from the MU17 side that reached the Mark Farren Cup final in 2021 playing alongside his brother Mark, to captaining the Galway’s MU19 side in 2023 as they reached the Enda McGuill Cup Final.
His versatility shone through playing in midfield or at right back. Built with acceleration and athleticism, intelligence with the ball and very technical, his performances earned International recognition.
He has played a major role in the Irish International setup in recent years being capped at U16, U17, U18 and at Schools level for his country. He has had the honour of captaining the Irish underage teams on a number of occasions including that Victory Shield in 2021.
Adam was also selected for the Connacht Schools team in 2022 as well as the 2021 winning side.
After a successful four years with Galway United for whom he made his Senior debut in late 2022, Adam left the shores of Galway Bay and signed for Treaty United in January 2024.
The 17-year-old has featured in a number of first team games this season and scored his first Treaty United Senior goal last night in their 3-1 victory at home to Longford Town in the SSE Airtricity First Division.
